Eyeglass Prescription and Frames at Owen Eye Care

FC – Eyeglass Prescription and Frames at Owen Eye Care

Clear vision is vital to living life to the fullest, whether it's reading, driving, or working on a computer. A proper eyeglass prescription allows you to view the world clearly and comfortably, minimizing eyestrain and headaches. At Owen Eye Care, we offer comprehensive eye exams to determine your exact lens prescription and address any vision issues.

Why Eye Exams?

The foundation of great glasses is a comprehensive eye exam. Unlike a quick vision test or routine eye exam, a thorough exam evaluates both your vision and overall eye health, ensuring your prescription is exactly what you need. If you've never had a comprehensive eye exam in your life, don't be anxious; it's all simple and harmless, and we explain everything so you can observe what is occurring and ask questions at any time.

During the test, your vision is measured by the doctor using eye charts and a refraction test to determine precisely which lenses provide you with the best vision. We also check the front and back of your eyes, from your pupils and eye movements to your retina and optic nerve, in search of any eye disease or hidden medical condition. After the examination, we have a comprehensive understanding of your vision and eye health.

Eyeglass Prescription Process

Getting new glasses at Owen Eye Care is a simple, one-on-one process. Here's what happens when you visit us for prescription glasses:

  1. Eye Exam and Consultation
We begin by examining your vision requirements and medical history, followed by a comprehensive eye examination to determine your prescription and assess your eye health. Our sophisticated equipment (such as the Optos retinal camera) will very often allow us to do this without having to dilate your eyes. The physician will take your visual acuity and refractive error measurements and share them with you before proceeding to choose your glasses.
  2. Frame Choice
Once we have confirmed your prescription, our opticians will assist you in selecting suitable frames. We consider your lifestyle requirements, fashion sense, and facial shape to determine frames that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also comfortable and suitable for your needs. You can experiment with different designs, ranging from classic to modern, and get expert advice on what would be most ideal for you.
  3. Lens Choices & Measurements
Finally, we will advise you on the optimal lens choices for you, including multifocal lenses, high-index thinner lenses, anti-glare coatings, or upgrades. We carefully measure your eyes (including pupillary distance and segment heights) to create custom-made lenses with perfectly aligned optical centers, ensuring optimal vision. We work with leading-edge optical laboratories to craft your lenses to precise specifications.
  4. Fitting & Follow-Up
Once your new glasses have been prepared, we'll have you come in to try them on in our office. Our staff will adjust the frame fit, tightening or loosening it, so that it feels just right and offers the best vision. We'll also address any care questions, such as how to clean and store your glasses. If this is your first time wearing glasses, we'll help you adjust to them. And of course, if there is any issue that arises after you've brought them home. For example, if you need a minor adjustment, call us. We're always available to make your glasses work for you.

Eyeglass Frames to Fit Every Style and Lifestyle

A showcase of designer eyeglass frames at Owen Eye Care offers frames for every age, taste, and purpose. Our optical boutique showcases a carefully curated selection of renowned brands recognized for their exceptional quality and design. Choosing frames is an exciting part of the process, and we're here to make it fun and stress-free. Owen Eye Care offers a wide selection of eyeglass frames in various styles, sizes, and materials, allowing everyone to find a pair they feel confident in.

Our lineup features fashionable designer collections, durable solutions for heavy wearers, and budget-friendly options for kids and adults. We carry top brands, including Oakley, Ray-Ban, Maui Jim, Kate Spade, Tom Ford, Silhouette, and others, offering a diverse selection ranging from sport-performance sunglasses to traditional and luxury frames. If you prefer a thin metal frame, a striking plastic design, or a rimless style, we've got it all to suit your taste.

The frames are available in a variety of materials, ranging from lightweight titanium alloys for minimal wear to flexible memory metals that can be bent without breaking. For sensitive skin, we offer hypoallergenic frame choices (nickel-free) as well as high-quality acetate plastics in vibrant colors. For added protection, consider wearing special frames if you play sports or have a strong prescription.

Advanced Lens Technologies and Options

Getting the frames right is only half the story. The lenses in those frames are what truly correct your vision. Owen Eye Care is proud to offer advanced lens technologies that allow us to customize your glasses for optimal vision, protection, and appearance. After determining your prescription, we'll recommend lens options that suit your lifestyle and enhance your visual clarity.

Single Vision, Bifocal, and Progressive Lenses:
Depending on whether you need help seeing up close, at a distance, or both, we can tailor your glasses to your specific needs. For those requiring distance and near vision (usually around age 40 and older), we can recommend progressive lenses. Progressive lenses are no-line multifocal that allow you to view at various distances in a single pair of glasses, without the necessity of reading glasses. And that means you can do anything —drive, work on a computer, read —all with the same glasses, without those distracting bifocal lines.

High-Definition Digital Lenses:
For the best possible vision, we offer high-definition (HD) lenses. These are digitally designed lenses that utilize computer-controlled surfacing to create an ultra-accurate prescription, often providing sharper vision than standard lenses. Some patients experience crisper vision with greater depth and a 20% wider field of clear view when performing near and intermediate activities, such as computer work or reading. HD lenses are beneficial if you have a high or complicated prescription (such as substantial astigmatism), where standard lenses may not be as precise.

Thinner, Lighter Lenses:
Don't worry if your prescription is powerful. We can avoid the "Coke-bottle" look. High-index lens materials enable us to reduce even very strong prescriptions to much thinner, lighter forms, thereby reducing the "Coke-bottle" appearance associated with heavy glasses. These new plastics minimize magnification distortion (the "bug-eye" appearance) and make your glasses more cosmetically pleasing and comfortable.

Anti-Glare Coatings:
We highly recommend no-glare (anti-reflective) coatings on your lenses. They remove reflections and halos from headlights and overhead lights in front of you and above you for safer nighttime driving, and also make your lenses almost invisible (no glare spots in photos so that others can see your eyes). Most high-end no-glare lenses also feature a scratch-resistant, easy-to-clean coating, keeping your glasses clearer throughout the day.

Blue Light Filtering:
We offer blue light-filtering lenses to help reduce digital eye strain caused by prolonged use of computers, smartphones, and tablets. Specialty lenses can make screen time more comfortable for your eyes. If you use digital devices for extended periods, inquire about installing this feature on your glasses.

Photochromic & Sunglass Lenses:
If you spend a lot of time outdoors, consider photochromic lenses that automatically darken in sunlight and return to clear indoors, or a pair of prescription sunglasses. We carry polarized sun lenses that cut glare from water, snow, and pavement, making them perfect for driving or outdoor activities. Notably, all our sunglass models shield 100% of UVA and UVB rays to protect your eyes from sun damage.

Protective Eyewear:
If you need safety glasses or sports goggles, we've got you covered. Specialized protective eyewear is available from Owen Eye Care for recreational, industrial, and occupational use. We can also create custom eyewear with your prescription.

High-Tech Diagnostic Equipment:
Our practice is outfitted with the Optos ultra-widefield retinal camera, which, in many instances, enables our physicians to inspect the interior of your eyes without dilation. This means that in most cases, you won't experience fuzzy vision or sensitivity to light after your exam, and you can return to your day as usual.
