Contact Lens Services by Owen Eye Care: Vision To Fit Your Life

Our vision correction at Owen Eye Care is never one-size-fits-all. We understand that uncluttered vision and long-term comfort must go hand in hand. For this reason, we provide individualized contact lens care tailored to your lifestyle, eye condition, and vision goals. If you're a contact lens newbie or need to upgrade to the latest model, we're here to support you every step of the way.
Contact lenses are an excellent alternative to regular eyeglasses, giving patients greater freedom to do the things they want to do. A fit and complete examination is required, however, to enjoy all of their benefits. At Owen Eye Care, we specialize in fitting a wide range of contact lenses and providing patients with proper wear and care instructions.
A Personalized Contact Lens Experience
Your contact lens journey begins with a complete contact lens eye exam. Our doctors consider your vision needs, cornea shape, tear film, and eye health when determining which lenses will provide you with the most comfort and clarity.
We take the time to listen to your preferences and lifestyle habits. Are you an athlete? An undergrad with a nose buried in media during class? A seasoned international world traveler? These details help us select the best lens for you. We then choose a type of lens, and after that, we experiment with trial lenses on and teach you how to put them in, remove them, and clean them. We will contact you again after your first fitting to ensure that your vision is optimized and your lenses feel comfortable.
Soft Contact Lenses: The Popular Choice
Soft contact lenses are constructed from flexible plastics that permit oxygen flow through to the cornea. Soft contact lenses are comfortable, easy to wear, and can be ordered in a vast range of prescriptions. Soft lenses are the most popular choice for patients to wear daily. We offer soft contact lenses at Owen Eye Care for daily, bi-weekly, and monthly replacement, tailored to meet your lifestyle and budget.
Disposable Contact Lenses: Hygiene vs. Convenience
Daily disposables and disposable lenses are the healthiest and most convenient form of contact lenses for wearers. As they are worn only once and then discarded, there is a lower chance of protein deposits, redness, or infection. These contacts are suitable for busy individuals, children, or those who don't make a fuss about cleansing rituals and maintaining perfect vision.
Toric Lenses for Astigmatism
Astigmatism requires a specialized contact lens that corrects the uneven curvature of the cornea. We offer soft and hard gas-permeable toric lenses that are specifically designed to remain centered in the eye, providing clear vision for all distances. Fitting toric lenses requires additional time and precision, but our optometrists are skilled in fitting astigmatic patients for clear and comfortable vision.
Multifocal and Bifocal Lenses
For patients experiencing problems with near and distance vision, multifocal and bifocal contact lenses are a viable option. These contact lenses are particularly beneficial for patients aged 40 or older who have presbyopia. Whether driving or reading small print, we help you choose the proper lens that minimizes the need for reading glasses and increases clarity.
Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses: Robust and Accurate
Less mainstream than soft lenses, RGP lenses are an excellent option for individuals with a higher need for uncompromised vision or those with medical complications. They hold their shape against the eye and offer superior and more accurate vision correction, especially in high prescriptions or corneal diseases like keratoconus. They are also less fragile than soft lenses and are less likely to retain debris, making them a more affordable choice in the long run.
Specialty Contact Lenses for Tough Cases
We also stock specialty lenses for people with unusual eye conditions such as keratoconus, dry eye syndrome, or post-surgical corneas. They may be hybrid lenses, scleral lenses, or custom orders explicitly made to match the shape of your eyes. With our advanced diagnostic equipment and fitting skills, even individuals with challenging prescriptions can enjoy the comfort and clear vision that contact lenses provide.
Contact Lens Services for Teenagers and Children
At Owen Eye Care, we often get asked this question: "When would it be alright for my child to wear contact lenses?" It is simply a matter of how responsible and mature the child is in meeting their hygiene obligations. Generally, from a physical standpoint, children can wear contact lenses quite well early in their lives, especially if contact lenses are part of a strategy to prevent the worsening of myopia. Our team works closely with families to assess their readiness and guides them throughout the process.
Research has indicated that the vast majority of children aged 8 to 11 can wear daily disposable contact lenses safely and satisfactorily. Contact lenses can enhance self-esteem, enhance sporting performance, and eliminate limitations of wearing glasses for most children. Our optometrists provide in-clinic education so that children learn how to insert, remove, and care for their contact lenses correctly.
Myopia Management and Contact Lenses
For progressive nearsightedness (myopia) in children, we can prescribe special contact lenses as part of an eye care program for myopia control. Multifocal soft lenses or orthokeratology (Ortho-K) can help reduce the progression of myopia over time. Special contacts at a young age can help preserve long-term vision and reduce the likelihood of future eye diseases.
Advanced Lens Fitting Technology
At Owen Eye Care, we utilize the newest technology to accurately measure your tear film and cornea. We use equipment such as digital image systems and corneal topographers to design and fit lenses with greater accuracy and comfort. For past contact wearers who have had difficulty, these machines could be the difference between a comfortable and successful solution.
Our doctors also perform detailed dry eye testing to verify that your tear supply is sufficient for contact lens wear. For dryness, we manage it with lenses that have increased water content or friction-modifying characteristics.
Education and Support from Start to Finish
Perhaps the biggest obstacle to successful contact lens wear is inadequate training and follow-up. That's why we emphasize education at every stage. During your fitting appointment, you'll learn:
- How to safely insert and remove your lenses
- How to clean and store your lenses (if required)
- What to watch out for in symptoms
- When to replace your lenses
- How to cope with daytime comfort problems
We also arrange follow-up appointments to ensure that your eyes are adjusting well and your vision remains clear. Our friendly staff are always pleased to answer questions, make adjustments, or re-fit if your needs change.
